Bentz Sleeper Inc. Closes Abruptly
A good company that we use for years is priceless beyond gold. It might be a repair shop, tire shop, truck dealer or anyone who makes our lives easier or deals with us fairly. These shops make accommodations to get our trucks in quickly so the truck can get back out on the road making money. The people working in these shops become friends and we think they will always be there.
In todayís economy, many of these small companies and shops are struggling to keep their doors open. More truckers are doing their own minor repairs or putting some things off in hopes that things will get better. The increases in materials, parts and benefits costs, higher utilities along with less business can work towards a company going out of business.
This is what happened to Bentz Sleepers. Bentzís sleepers were high quality and stood up well to the rigors of the road. This company worked with their customers in any way possible. They would shuffle schedules so that they could get repairs done quickly and they did not gouge the driver or owner of the truck too deeply, being fair on repair and labor costs. One knew if Bentz was doing the work, it would be done right and in a timely manner.
Things started to change though. It started out with a driver calling Bentz to schedule a repair and the driver being told that it was not certain if the truck could be gotten in quickly due to a shortening of working hours, but they would see what they could do. This went on for a couple of weeks, while the driver waited patiently to get the truck in for repairs because after all, the driver wanted the shop they trusted to do the repair work.
Imagine the surprise of the drivers and owners of trucks when they found out that the shop had closed without notifying long standing customers. This made the drivers and owners of trucks have to scramble to find another shop of uncertain quality quickly to get the repairs done.
It is understood that companies and shops close all of the time these days due to economic concerns. It would seem that a little common civility would have been used by Bentz though towards long time customers and that those customers would have been notified that the shop would be closing instead of the shop stringing the customers along for several weeks while Bentz knew they were getting ready to close their doors.
Bentz Sleepers provided premier sleepers and quality service for many years; it is hoped that at some point they will re-open for business once again. If they do not re-open, Bentz Sleepers will be sorely missed.
